Presented by Detroit vocalist Olivia Van Goor and Lansing drummer Jeff Shoup, Shadows & Light brings alive the music of legendary singer, musician, artist, and composer Joni Mitchell. Inspired by Mitchell’s boundary-pushing songwriting and genre defying collaborations, the band focuses on Joni’s jazz-oriented music from the 1970s, ‘80s and ‘90s. The ensemble’s name and many of the musical selections are drawn from Mitchell’s iconic 1979 live tour and album, which featured an all-star lineup of jazz legends including Pat Metheny on guitar, Jaco Pastorius on bass, Don Alias on drums and percussion, Lyle Mays on piano, and Michael Brecker on saxophone.

Shadows & Light: The Music of Joni Mitchell is a heartfelt tribute that seeks not only to honor her work, but to carry forward the spirit of creative exploration that defines it.

Olivia Van Goor and Jeff Shoup will be joined by Mia Chinni (guitar), Matt Ryan (bass), Lisa Sung (piano), and Jon Gewirtz (saxophone).

Following the concert, join everyone in fellowship hall for a dessert reception to celebrate the opening of the 2026 Festival Of The Arts!

2 Stones Events’ Unique Evening Of Live Jazz At Ciao Amici’s In Downtown Brighton.

Ciao !Jazz features intimate shows with a speakeasy vibe, and January 24 features Scott Gwinnell's Tribute to Burt Bacharach. This is the fifth season of 2 Stones Events’ monthly concerts in the lower level of Ciao Amici’s restaurant in downtown Brighton (217 W. Main). Previously named Kittens & Crooners, the series has expanded its focus on The Great American Songbook to now also include other styles of the jazz genre. This is a 21+ event.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., two-set concert with the first concert from 6:00-7:30pm and the second concert from 8:30-10:00pm. There will be a "cash-only" (no cards) bar to enjoy a beverage during the two-set concert. Feel free to go upstairs for a fabulous dinner and drinks before or after the show, if you like). Tickets are priced at $27 and limited to just 100.

The Greater Detroit Jazz Society presents local jazz vocalist, Olivia Van Goor accompanied by the Eat It Up Trio. Olivia Van Goor is known for being a versatile singer, showcasing her musicianship with her voice and being one with the band. Over the years, she has always searched for songs that connect vocalists with instrumentalists, and thanks to lyricists like Jon Hendricks and the enthusiasm of the Detroit jazz scene, she has learned a whole book of traditionally instrumental tunes. These include tunes associated with Thelonious Monk, Cannonball Adderley, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Ahmad Jamal, Neal Hefti, Ray Brown, Charlie Parker, and many others.
